The James L. and Nellie M. Westlake Scholarship Foundation was established in 1981 pursuant to the provisions of the wills of James L. and Nellie M. Westlake for the purpose of assisting Missouri residents in pursuing a college education. Renewable scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited four-year institution of the student’s choice.
This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
Applicants to the James L. and Nellie M. Westlake Scholarship Program must:
All students attending a participating Missouri College with an eligible SAT or ACT score will automatically have the Bright Flight Award deducted as other aid.
Scholarship awards may cover up to the cost of tuition, plus a $2,000 stipend to cover the cost of fees, books, and supplies.
Awards for high school graduates are renewable for up to three years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance (maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.25 on a 4.0 scale) and full-time enrollment.
Awards for community college students transferring to a four-year college or university are renewable for up to two years for students entering at the sophomore level, up to one year for students entering at the junior level, or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance (maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale) and full-time enrollment.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Applicants will be notified by email in mid-May. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.
