The H.R. Young Graduate Scholarship Program provides graduate school scholarships to (i) children of certain Goldman Sachs employees (as described below), (ii) the spouses (opposite or same-sex), civil partners, or domestic partners of certain Goldman Sachs employees and (iii) the children of certain Goldman Sachs employees’ spouses (opposite or same-sex), civil partners or domestic partners.
The partners of the firm established this program in 1981 in honor of H.R. Young, a limited partner with over 50 years of service with the firm, who was the former head of Securities Sales (a predecessor of the Global Banking & Markets Division) and a member of the Management Committee at the time of his retirement.
All phases of the scholarship competition, including selection of recipients, are administered by Scholarship America.
In addition to the H.R. Young Graduate Scholarship Program specific to Goldman Sachs, the Scholarship America Hub can provide you access to additional external scholarship programs you may be interested in. Please note that these programs are not endorsed, nor sponsored by the firm.
To be eligible to apply for the H.R. Young Graduate Scholarship Program, each of the following requirements must be met:
Up to five (5) new annual awards of US$7,500 each will be granted.
The total number of awards will be based on the number and quality of applications received. Awards may be renewed for up to two additional years or until a graduate degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance and progress. An employee’s termination of employment does not affect award renewal.
Awards are for graduate study only.
In certain non-U.S. jurisdictions, the scholarship award, although awarded to the child of the employee or the child of the employee’s spouse, civil partner or domestic partner, may be taxable to the employee. Applicants and employees should consult with their personal tax, legal, and/or financial advisors regarding the tax consequences in their jurisdiction.

Applicants will be notified in March 2025.
Each scholarship award will become effective in the fall or as soon thereafter when the recipient is enrolled in graduate school. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Payment of Scholarships
