Pebble Beach Company Foundation Scholarship Program for Employees' Children
Deadline to apply: February 3, 2025 1:00 pm PST

Pebble Beach Company Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist employees’ children who plan to continue education in college or vocational school programs. Renewable scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Pebble Beach Company Foundation Scholarship Program for Employees’ Children must:

  • Be dependent* children, under the age of 26, of full-time Pebble Beach Company employees who have a minimum of one year of employment with the company as of the application deadline.
*Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.
  • Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
  • Be high school seniors or graduates, who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

Award Amounts
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $2,500 to $5,000. Students attending four-year universities will receive $5,000 and students attending two-year colleges will receive $2,500. The undergraduate awards may be renewed up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first.

The top-performing student, based on all criteria, attending a four-year university will be awarded the Susan Merfeld Scholarship in the amount of $7,500.

The scholar demonstrating substantial community service will receive the Mark Verbonich Scholarship.

There will be one (1) $5,000 graduate scholarship available to students, under the age of 26, at the time of application. The graduate award may be renewed for a second consecutive year or until a graduate degree is earned, whichever occurs first.

Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance (i.e., freshman maintaining a 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale; a 3.0 GPA is required after the freshman year), Full-time enrollment, continued employment of the student’s parent at Pebble Beach Company, and continuation of the program by the Pebble Beach Company Foundation. Renewal students will be asked to submit a short essay describing their progress in accomplishing goals and providing any changes in educational plans.

Awards are for undergraduate or graduate study.

Selection Criteria
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances

Applications from college-bound students and vocational-technical school students are evaluated in two separate groups. Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Pebble Beach Company Foundation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification
Applicants will be notified in March. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
