R.E. Ginna Scholarship Program

R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant, LLC has established a scholarship program to assist students who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the R.E. Ginna Scholarship Program must be:

  • High school seniors attending Webster Schroeder High School, Webster R.L. Thomas High School, Wayne James A. Beneway High School, or Williamson Senior High School.
  • Planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Planning to major in engineering technologies, physical science (such as chemistry, physics, environmental science or biology, etc.) or a skilled/craft trade (such as welder, boilermaker, pipe-fitter, etc.)
  • Have a minimum ‘B’ grade point average (GPA) of 85% or 3.00 on a 4.00 scale or the equivalent.

Award Information:

  • Up to four (4) awards of $1,500 each will be granted. One award will be granted to Webster R.L. Thomas High School, one award to Webster Schroeder High School, one award to Wayne James A. Beneway High School, and one award to Williamson Senior High School, provided applicants are qualified. If there are no applicants from one of the eligible schools, award amount may increase for the selected recipients.
  • Awards are one-time only and are not renewable.
  • Awards are for undergraduate study or skilled trade school only.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in late February. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant, LLC. Payments are made in one installment in August.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Honors
  • Work experience
  • Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need is not considered.

Preference will be given to students entering a nuclear-specific field of study or skilled craft/trade with desire to obtain employment in the local community.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant, LLC play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following document:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial or online transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

      NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than December 19, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time.

Your application is not complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically through the Scholarship America Student Hub.
