The Harriet Goldberg Scholarship Program
Live application window: April 29, 2024 through June 6, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time

Harriet Goldberg was an educator, an accomplished lawyer, a dedicated public servant, and an inspirational senior leader at Pearson, one of the world’s top education companies. Harriet passed away unexpectedly in January 2015. We at Pearson would like to honor and remember our good friend and dear colleague Harriet by establishing the Harriet Goldberg Scholarship at Rutgers Law School, Harriet’s law alma mater.Over the course of 25 years, Harriet managed the New Jersey office of the Legal Department of Pearson and its predecessor company, Simon & Schuster’s education group. Before joining Simon & Schuster in 1990, Harriet already had two distinguished careers: the first as a educator—she had been a high school teacher and the Director of an alternative junior high school in NYC–and the second as a practicing lawyer, starting with the firm of Paul Weiss in New York and then moving to the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, where she was promoted to Chief of the Civil Rights Unit.

Harriet’s dedication, her professionalism, her accomplishments as a lawyer, and her contributions to our company, are impossible to measure. Her love of her job, her support of her staff, her wisdom and decency, her enthusiasm, and her sense of humor helped to make the Pearson and Simon & Schuster Legal Departments great places to work for over two decades.

Harriet was passionate about education and about the law, and was an ardent supporter of Rutgers Law School. We thought it would be fitting, then, to establish this scholarship at Rutgers Law in memory and grateful remembrance of Harriet Goldberg.
