AstraZeneca Citizens' Foundation Scholarship Program
Application status: Closed

AstraZeneca has established a scholarship program to assist children of employees who plan to continue their education in college.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the AstraZeneca Citizens’ Foundation Scholarship Program must:

  • Dependent* children up to the age of 23 (or up to age 28 in the case of a physical disability) of active full-time or part-time AstraZeneca, MedImmune or Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. US employees.
*Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.
  • High school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates, who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Applicants must demonstrate need, including financial need and/or a physical or learning disability.

A minimum of one student will be chosen who has a grade point average no higher than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).

Children of AstraZeneca, MedImmune or Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Vice Presidents or above are not eligible for the program. Students who have received an AstraZeneca National Merit Scholarship are not eligible.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $3,000 award. Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic progress and continued parental employment. A parent must be employed by AstraZeneca, MedImmune or Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. at the time awards are paid.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of AstraZeneca play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in late May.
