The Marathon Petroleum Scholars Program was established to assist employees’ children who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. Renewable and nonrenewable scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.
This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
Applicants to the Marathon Petroleum Scholars Program must be:
*The program is available to sons and daughters, age 16-19, (including legally adopted, step-children, and children under legal guardianship if both parents are deceased) if the parent or legal guardian is, or was at the time of retirement or death, a regular full-time or regular part-time employee.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Financial need will be the primary consideration in the selection of recipients of renewable awards. Recipients of the renewable awards must demonstrate need.
Applicants may receive a renewable financial need-based award or non-renewable merit-based award, but not both.
If the financial section is not filled out completely, the student will be considered for a one-time non-renewable award only.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer, associate, or employee of Marathon Petroleum Company LP play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision of Scholarship America as final.
Up to sixty (60) renewable need-based awards of $4,000 will be granted each year, as long as there are qualified applicants.
Awards may be renewed for up to three years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon continued parental employment (unless retired or deceased during employment from MPC) and satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study.
A minimum of twenty (20) one-time non-renewable awards of $4,000 will be granted each year, as long as there are qualified applicants.
Financial need will not be considered for these awards.
The one-time awards are not renewable.
Applicants will be notified of their status in late March. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Scholarship awards will only be made to applicants who are eligible dependents as of the date of scholarship selection.
Recipients have no obligation to Marathon Petroleum Company LP. They are, however, required to provide complete transcripts and financial information when requested and to notify Scholarship America of any changes of address, school enrollment, or other relevant information.
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Marathon Petroleum Company LP. Payment is made in one installment in early August of each year.
