MetLife Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist MetLife employees’ children who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. Renewable scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.
The program is administered by Scholarship America, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
Applicants to the MetLife Foundation Pathways Scholarship Program must be:
Children of officers (Vice President, Senior VP, Executive VP, President (and above)) within the MetLife family of companies are ineligible.
Previous one-time honorarium award recipients are ineligible.
Children of contract employees are ineligible.
Award Amounts
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree or equivalent is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Awards are for qualified education-related expenses only (tuition, fees, books, and required supplies/equipment).
Selection of Recipients
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:
Academic evaluation of international applicants will include a review of the grade/mark average based on the grading system used in the applicant’s country and a review of the results of academic examinations.
Recipients must demonstrate financial need. Recipients who attend federally subsidized military academies are eligible to receive a $1,000 one-time award. The number of awards will be based on the number of applications received within budget and IRS Revenue Procedure 76-47 guidelines.
Provided there are qualified applicants, recipients will be selected per country in proportion to the number of eligible applications received.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of MetLife play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
Notification
Applicants will be notified by email at the end of May. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of MetLife Foundation. Award checks will be issued in U.S. currency. Recipients in the U.S. and Canada will receive payment in one installment mid-July. The check is mailed to each recipient’s home address and is made payable to the school for the student. Recipients outside the U.S. and Canada will be paid by wire transfer payable in one installment in August.
Award amounts are listed in U.S. dollars (USD) and award payments will be issued in USD. Recipients may choose to receive award payments in their local currency when available.
