Police and Firemen's Insurance Association Scholarship Program
Deadline to apply: May 15, 2024 3:00 pm CT

The Police and Firemen’s Insurance Association has established a scholarship program to assist members’ dependents who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Police and Firemen’s Insurance Association Scholarship Program must be:

  • Dependent* children, or grandchildren, or great-grandchildren, under the age of 26, of members in good standing with the Association who presently hold a Certificate of Insurance that has been in effect for at least six months as of May 1, 2024.  The applicant must also hold a policy with the Association as of May 1, 2024.
*Dependent children are defined as natural or legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the member’s household or primarily supported by the member. Grandchildren or great-grandchildren do not need to be a dependent of the member.
  • Applicants must be students who are enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two year junior or community college, two or four-year vocational-technical school or college, or four-year college or university.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $1,500  award. Up to one hundred (100) awards will be granted.

Recipients who attend a United States military academy will be eligible for a one-time, nonrenewable award of $1,500.

Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon the recipient maintaining a 2.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale as a full-time student. The member’s insurance policy, as well as the recipient’s policy must remain active and in good standing as a conditional of renewal.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in June.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the Police and Firemen’s Association.  Payment is made in August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Police and Firemen’s Insurance Association play a part in the selection.

Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.  All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

Your application is not complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.
