ABB Motors and Mechanical Scholarship Program

The Baldor Electric Company Foundation was formed to foster meaningful and positive corporate citizenship in the communities where ABB Motors and Mechanical does business, through the funding of scholarships, capital gifts, and other charitable contributions. As a part of this mission, the Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist employees’ children who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the ABB Motors and Mechanical Scholarship Program must be:

  • A dependent* child, age 23 or younger as of December 31, 2023, of a full-time ABB Motors and Mechanical Inc. employee who has a minimum of six (6) months of employment with the company as of the application deadline date, and who is employed at the time of recipient verification.
    *Dependent child shall be defined as a benefit covered employee’s unmarried:

    • Natural child
    • Adopted child or child placed with a covered employee in anticipation of adoption
    • Stepchild who resides in the employee’s household as long as the child’s natural parent remains married to the employee and also resides in the employee’s household
    • Child for whom the covered employee is the permanent legal guardian
  • A high school senior or graduate who plans to enroll or students who are already enrolled in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

ABB Inc. employees are not eligible.

Award Amounts

Up to twenty (20) awards will be granted each year. If selected as a recipient:

  • Rising freshmen (high school seniors) and sophomores will receive a $3,000 award
  • Rising juniors will receive a $4,000 award
  • Rising seniors or 5th year students will receive a $5,000 award

Assuming there are qualified applicants from each pool, the number of awards will be distributed in proportion to the total percentage of applications received from Vocational/Technical and Two- Year college and Four- Year colleges and universities.

Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

The program will be administered in full compliance with IRS Revenue Procedure 76-47.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Honors
  • Work experience
  • Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation.

Financial need is not considered.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in late March. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the Foundation. Awards will be paid in one installment in early August. Awards will be made payable to the institution for the student.

As part of your application, you must upload the following document(s):

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

    NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of those test scores separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than February 5, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time.

Your application is not considered complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.
