AbbVie Community Equity Scholarship

AbbVie Bioresearch Center, Inc. has established a scholarship program to assist 2024 Worcester public high school seniors who plan to attend college this fall and are pursuing a STEM-related education and career.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the AbbVie Community Equity Scholarship must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Be a high school senior enrolled in one of Worcester Massachusetts’ 13 public high schools. Or be a graduate or current undergraduate student who has attended and graduated from said high schools
  • Have been accepted for enrollment in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school for the entire upcoming academic year
  • Have registered or plan to register for two or more STEM related courses in the upcoming academic year. Plan to pursue studies or a career in a STEM field
  • Be a first-generation college student*
  • Self-identify as Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino or American Indian, Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander

Children and grandchildren of AbbVie Bioresearch Center, Inc. or any of its affiliates are ineligible.

*Neither parent having earned an Associate degree or higher.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need will be considered. Applicants must demonstrate need.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of AbbVie Bioresearch Center, Inc. play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $5,000 award. Up to two (2) awards will be granted.

This program includes a paid internship the summer following receipt at AbbVie’s Worcester location as part of the eligibility requirements.

Awards are one-time only. Past recipients may not reapply.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Includes an opportunity for paid internship the following summer for recipients.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in March.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of AbbVie Bioresearch Center, Inc. Payment is made in August.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

    • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken
    • A copy of most recent FAFSA submission summary.


NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than January 16, 2025 3:00 pm Central Time.

If you are a current undergraduate student, to verify you graduated from one of the Worcester Massachusetts’s 13 public schools, please upload your high school transcript along with your current undergraduate transcript.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
