AbbVie Community Equity Scholarship

AbbVie Bioresearch Center, Inc. has established a scholarship program to assist 2021 Worcester public high school seniors who plan to attend college in Massachusetts or Rhode Island this fall and are pursuing a STEM-related education and career.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships, tuition assistance, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the AbbVie Community Equity Scholarship must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Be a class of 2021 high school senior enrolled in one of Worcester Massachusetts’ public high schools
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Have been accepted for enrollment in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school in Massachusetts or Rhode Island for the entire upcoming 2021-2022 academic year
  • Have registered or plan to register for two or more STEM related courses in the upcoming academic year. Plan to pursue studies or a career in a STEM field
  • Be a first-generation college student*
  • Self-identify as Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino or American Indian, Alaska Native, or Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander

Children and grandchildren of AbbVie Bioresearch Center, Inc. or any of its affiliates are ineligible.

*Neither parent having earned an Associate degree or higher.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of career and educational goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an online recommendation.

In addition, applicants will be asked to upload a copy of their Student Aid Report (SAR). Financial need will be considered. Applicants must demonstrate need.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of AbbVie Bioresearch Center, Inc. play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $5,000 award. Up to two (2) awards will be granted.

Recipients may be offered a paid internship with AbbVie Bioresearch Center Inc. the summer after their first year of undergraduate study.

Awards are one-time only. Past recipients may not reapply.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in August.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of AbbVie Bioresearch Center, Inc. Payment is made in September.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken
  • Student Aid Report (SAR)

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than July 9, 2021 3:00 pm CT.
