This program is administered by Scholarship America┬«, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, or national origin.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Community Involvement
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model in the Immunology community
  • Academic excellence
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school, community activities and/or work experience (if applicable)
  • Honors
  • A letter of recommendation
  • An essay answering one of the following topics:
    1. Living with a chronic inflammatory disease may give you unique insights into the world around you. What have you learned about yourself during your journey living with your disease? How will you use that learning to tackle the new journey ahead as you pursue a degree?
    2. A sense of community is important when you may need support navigating through difficult times in your life. What role have you taken in your own community and why is that important to you personally? What impact has it had?
    3. Education can be a powerful tool that you can use to change the world. What would this scholarship mean to you and your educational goals? Would you do anything differently as a result of being awarded this scholarship?

Financial need is not considered.

Scholarship America will review applications and select finalists. All finalists will be evaluated by a panel of judges selected by AbbVie. Applicants will be judged based on community involvement, ability to serve as a positive role model in the immunology community and academic excellence. The judges will aspire for a representative sample across therapeutic areas, depending on submissions. All decisions made by the judging panel are final.
