American Electric Power Company, Inc. has set up the AEP Educational Trust to fund and administer a scholarship program to assist children of employees who plan to continue their education in college.
This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, or national origin.
Applicants to the AEP Educational Trust Scholarship must meet all of the following criteria:
Children of a Trustee of the AEP Educational Trust or of a member of the Board of Directors of any of the AEP System Companies are ineligible.
Awards
If selected as an American Electric Power Education Trust Fund recipient, the recipient will be eligible for an $8,000 award.
The initial award is $3,000 with renewal awards of $2,500 for two additional years contingent upon satisfactory academic performance. The student must maintain a 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, in a full time course of study and continuation of the program by AEP.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Selection of Recipients
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of career and educational goals and objectives, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an online recommendation.
Financial need will be considered. Recipients must demonstrate need.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of AEP play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
Notification
All applicants will be notified in mid-May.
Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of AEP. Payment is made in August.
