Albemarle Community Scholarship

Albemarle Corporation has established a scholarship program to assist high school seniors in Cleveland County, North Carolina who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Albemarle Community Scholarship must:

  • Be current high school seniors attending school in Cleveland County, North Carolina
  • Plan to study a STEM major (medical majors are NOT eligible)
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent – unweighted scale)

Albemarle Corporation employees and their immediate family members (spouses or dependents) are ineligible.

Awards

Up to four awards will be granted.

  • Up to two awards of $5,000 each to students attending a four-year college or university.
    • Awards are renewable up to 3 years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance and full-time enrollment in a STEM major.
    • If a student is awarded at the 4-year school level, they must attend this school type or will no longer be eligible to receive the award.
  • Up to two awards of $2,500 each to students attending a two-year or vocational-technical school.
    • Awards are renewable for one year on the basis of satisfactory academic performance and full-time enrollment in a STEM major.
    • If a student is awarded at the 2-year or vocational-technical level, they must attend this school type or will no longer be eligible to receive the award.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Recipients may be offered internships during pursuit of their degree and/or career opportunities with Albemarle Corporation upon graduation.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Albemarle Corporation play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in May.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Albemarle Corporation. Payment is made in early August.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
