Alfa Foundation Scholarship Program

Alfa Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist members of the Alabama Farmers Federation who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs in the state of Alabama. Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.

This program is administered by Scholarship America┬«, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants of the Alfa Foundation Scholarship Program award must:

  • High school seniors or graduates or current postsecondary undergraduates who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- year or four- year college, university, or vocational-technical school located in the state of Alabama for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).
  • Have a current Alabama Farmers Federation Membership issued in his/her name. Annual membership is available by calling 1-800-964-2532, by clicking here, or by visiting an Alfa Insurance office. (Membership must be issued in the name of the name of the scholarship applicant to be eligible for consideration.)

Note: Alfa Mutual Insurance employees and their dependent children are eligible to apply.

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive:

  • An award in the amount of $1,000.
  • Up to 100 awards will be granted each year.
  • Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
  • Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books and supplies required for coursework only.
  • Awards are for undergraduate study only.

The program will be administered in full compliance with IRS Revenue Procedure 76-47.

 

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • academic record
  • demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • work experience
  • statement of goals and aspirations
  • an online recommendation

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any director, officer or employee of the Alfa Foundation, Alfa Mutual Insurance Company, its affiliates or subsidiaries, or the Alabama Farmers Federation, its affiliates or subsidiaries, play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final and shall release Alfa Foundation, Alfa Mutual Insurance Company, its affiliates or subsidiaries, or the Alabama Farmers Federation, its affiliates or subsidiaries, and any of its respective directors, officers, or employees from liability regarding the selection of recipients.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in Late March. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Alfa Foundation. Awards will be paid in one installment in early August.

As part of your application, you must upload the following documents:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial or online transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken

Also as part of your application, one online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf.
