Axalta Bright Futures Scholarship Program

Axalta Coating Systems has established a scholarship program to assist high school seniors, current undergraduates, and graduate level students who plan to continue their education in select fields in college or vocational school programs. Students at eligible colleges, universities and vocational-technical schools in regions served by Axalta can apply for renewable scholarships up to $5,000 per year from the Axalta Bright Futures Scholarship Program.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Axalta Bright Futures Scholarship Program must:

    • Be current college undergraduate sophomores, juniors, seniors*, or graduate level students planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate or graduate study at one of the eligible schools** in the United States for the upcoming academic year, pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree in one of the following fields:
      • Color Science
      • Chemistry or related program
      • Chemical Engineering or related program
      • Supply Chain Management or related program

OR

  • Be high school seniors or students planning to enroll in full-time study at one of the eligible schools** in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year, pursuing vocational-technical studies in one of the following fields:
    • Studies related to manufacturing, operations, safety, environmental and other manufacturing-related degrees
    • Auto body painting/repair

*Current undergraduate seniors must be planning to attend graduate school the upcoming academic year.

**Eligible schools:

  • Philadelphia, PA area – University of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania State University (all campuses), Cheyney University, Drexel University, Temple University, University of Delaware, Villanova University
  • Detroit, Ml area – University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Wayne State University
  • Houston, TX area -Texas A&M University, Universal Technical Institute, University of Houston
  • Front Royal, VA area -Virginia Tech, Lord Fairfax Community College, Hampton University, University of Virginia
  • Rochester, New York area – Rochester Institute of Technology

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of goals and aspirations
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances

Financial need will be considered. Recipients must demonstrate need.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Axalta Coating Systems, LLC play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

An effort will be made to select recipients who represent the diversity of the applicant pool based on self-reported race/ethnicity and gender.

Assuming there are qualified applicants, preference will be given to first generation college students.

Awards

Bachelor’s and graduate degrees

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $5,000 award. Up to 16 awards will be granted. Awards are renewable up to one year or until a bachelor’s or graduate degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance and continued eligibility (including pursuit of a degree in an eligible field at an eligible school). Awards may transfer from a bachelor’s to a graduate degree if the recipient enrolls in graduate study the upcoming academic year.

Vocational-technical degrees

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $2,500 award. Up to 16 awards will be granted. Awards are renewable up to one year or until a technical degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance and continued eligibility (including pursuit of a decree in an eligible field at an eligible school).

If a recipient transfers from an eligible two-year vo-tech program to a four-year or vice versa, their award amount will be adjusted accordingly.

Recipients may be offered internship and/or career opportunities with Axalta.

Notification

All applicants will be notified by early July.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Axalta Coating Systems, LLC. Payment is made in August.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  • A copy of your most recently filed 1040.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically through the Scholarship America Student Hub.
