Barnhill Family Scholarship Program

The Barnhill Family has established a scholarship program to assist dependent children and dependent grandchildren of Barnhill Contracting Company employees who plan to continue their education in college.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the Barnhill Family Scholarship Program must:

  • Be dependent children• or dependent grandchildren••, age 25 and under, of full-time Barnhill Contracting Company employees who have a minimum of one(1) year of employment with the company as of the application deadline.

    *Children are defined as biological, step- or legally adopted children living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee. ••Grandchildren must be living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.

  • Be high school seniors or graduates or current postsecondary undergraduates.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire 2020-21 academic year. Vo-tech students may be enrolled in programs leading to a certificate.

Award information:

Up to four (4) awards of $4,000 each will be granted to students attending a four-year school. Up to four (4) awards of $1,500 each will be granted to students attending a two-year community or junior college. If there are not adequate qualified applicants for an award category, sponsor may give additional awards to the other award category if additional funding is available.

Two-year school awards are renewable one year and four-year university or college awards are renewable up to three years or until a degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance and continued parental, grandparent, or guardian employment. A two-year award recipient may reapply for a four-year award upon completion of a two-year degree program. The maximum number of years a recipient may receive an award is four years.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in May. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Barnhill Contracting Company. Payments are made in early August.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of career and educational goals
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An outside appraisal

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Barnhill Contracting Company play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following documents:

  • Current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial or online transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course, and term in which each course was taken
