BBVA Opportunity Scholarship Awards Program

BBVA USA has established a scholarship program to assist children of employees who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to age, citizenship, color, disability, ethnic origin, gender, gender identity and expression, marital status, nationality, national origin, race, gender predisposition, protected veteran’s status, or any other status or classification protected by federal, state or local laws.

Applicants to the BBVA Opportunity Scholarship Awards Program must be:

  • A dependent* child of any current, regular full-time employee of BBVA USA, BBVA Securities Inc., BBVA S.A. (based in the US) or other U.S. based BBVA affiliate for whom BBVA provides “full” payroll and benefits related services (and who is not grade 25 or higher) is eligible to participate if the employee has worked for the company at least one continuous year as of the application deadline date of May 27, 2021. If both parents are employees of BBVA or other subsidiaries of BBVA Bancshares, Inc., both parents must be grade 24 or lower, and at least one parent must be a regular, full-time employee with at least one year continuous service as of the application deadline of May 27, 2021.
    *Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.
  • High school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates, who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.

Current employees, themselves, are not eligible for this award, but should check on their eligibility for the Tuition Reimbursement Program instead.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of goals and aspirations
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation.

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of BBVA USA play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Awards

The awards are for $3,000 each for tuition or school related fees for study in any accredited post-high school education program. Up to 42 awards will be given.

Awards are for one year of full-time graduate or undergraduate study.

Awards are not renewable. Students may reapply each year they continue to meet eligibility criteria.

A student may receive an award no more than four times. Only one scholarship will be awarded per family per year.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in July, 2021.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of BBVA USA. Payment is made in one installment in August, 2021.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than June 1, 2021 3:00 pm Central Time.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
