Bechtel Global Scholars Program
Deadline to apply: February 26, 2025 3:00 pm U.S. Central Time

Bechtel has established a scholarship program to assist children of employees who plan to continue their education in college, university, vocational, or technical school programs. Scholarships are offered each year through Bechtel Group Foundation for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

ALL APPLICANTS to the Bechtel Global Scholars Program must be:

  • Children* of Bechtel employees worldwide. Bechtel employees are defined as those individuals who are actively employed by Bechtel or one of its subsidiary companies.
*Dependent children are defined as biological, step- or legally adopted children, children of registered domestic partnerships, or legal wards of the actively employed Bechtel employee.

Applicants in the Northern Hemisphere (students attending U.S. and/or other schools following an August/September-May/June academic year)

  • Must be current high school seniors (or students in their final year of upper secondary school) who will graduate in 2025.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, vocational, or technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

Applicants in the Southern Hemisphere (students living in countries attending a school following a calendar academic year)

  • Must have completed higher or upper secondary between September and December 2024**.
**Non-U.S. applicants beginning their final secondary school year in early 2025 are NOT eligible, but should plan to apply for the 2026 program.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited college, university, vocational, or technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

Current undergraduates are NOT eligible for the program.

Children of retired Bechtel employees are NOT eligible for the program.

Scholarships are to be used within the next academic year, unless there is a specific reason for the recipient to defer until a later time (i.e. volunteer service). Deferrals must be authorized in advance and are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Past academic performance and future potential
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school activities
  • Community volunteer activities
  • Work experience
  • Educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

In no instance does any officer or employee of Bechtel Group Foundation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Award Amounts

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a US $5,000 award. In no case shall the award amount exceed the cost of one year’s educational expenses. Awards distributed shall be made in proportion to the number of eligible applications received from each region.

Seventy percent (70%) of the scholarships will be awarded to applicants majoring in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers; 30% will be awarded to students pursuing degrees in all other majors. A change in major after selection may nullify the scholarship award.

Awards are not renewable and are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in May 2025.

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Bechtel Group Foundation. Payment is made in August 2025.
