Bechtel has established a scholarship program to assist children of employees who plan to continue their education in college or university programs. Scholarships are offered each year through Bechtel Group Foundation for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.
This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, or national origin.
ALL APPLICANTS to the Bechtel Global Scholars Awards Scholarship Program must be:
U.S. Applicants (students attending U.S. and/or other schools following an August/September-May/June academic year)
Non-U.S. Applicants (students living in Southern Hemisphere countries attending a school following a calendar academic year)
Current undergraduates are NOT eligible for the program.
Scholarships are to be used within the next academic year, unless there is a specific reason for the recipient to defer until a later time (i.e. volunteer service). Deferrals must be authorized in advance and are considered on a case-by-case basis.
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a U.S. $3,000 award. In no case shall the award amount exceed the cost of one year’s educational expenses. Awards distributed shall be made in proportion to the number of eligible applications received from each region.
70% of scholarships will be awarded to applicants majoring in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers; 30% will be awarded to students pursuing degrees in all other majors. A change in major after selection may nullify the scholarship award.
Awards are not renewable and are for undergraduate study only.
Selection of Recipients
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of past academic performance and future potential, demonstrated leadership and participation in school activities, volunteer community activities, work experience, statement of career and educational aspirations and goals, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal.
Financial need is not considered.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.
In no instance does any officer or employee of Bechtel Group Foundation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
All applicants will be notified in April.
Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Bechtel Group Foundation. Payment is made in early August.
