Bernowski Scholarship Trust Fund

The Bernowski Scholarship Trust Fund assists students who are graduating seniors from Belle Vernon High School, Charleroi High School, or Ringgold High School in Pennsylvania and plan to continue their education at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the 15000-16999 ZIP Code areas for the entire upcoming academic year.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Bernowski Scholarship Trust Fund must:

  • Be high school seniors at one of the schools in Pennsylvania:
    • Belle Vernon High School
    • Charleroi High School
    • Ringgold High School
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the 15000-16999 ZIP Code areas for the entire upcoming academic year

PNC Employees, children of PNC employees or Trust committee members are ineligible.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award of up to $2,000.

Awards are renewable up to three years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance (maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale), and full-time enrollment at an accredited two-or four-year college or university in the 15000-16999 ZIP Code areas.

Awards must be used for tuition only, and are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in June.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of PNC Bank, N.A., as Trustee of the Bernowski Scholarship Trust Fund. Payment is made in August.

Selection Criteria

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need will be considered. All applicants must demonstrate need.

Scholarship America will evaluate and rank all eligible applications. Scholarship America will send all eligible applicants and the ranked recipient list to the Sponsor and the ARC committee. PNC’s ARC committee will finalize the recipients. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than April 27, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time.
