BLEARN Scholarship Program

Physicians of Corewell Health Beaumont Hospital, Troy have established a scholarship program to assist physicians’ children, employees and employees’ children who plan to continue education in college or vocational school programs. Scholarships are offered each year for study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the BLEARN Scholarship Program must be active employees or children of active employees in one of the following categories to be considered scholarship eligible:

Employee Eligibility:

  • Actively employed full-time
  • Actively employed part-time (minimum of 20 hours per week)

Both full-time and part-time eligible employees must be enrolled in either a full-time or part-time undergraduate allied health or nursing program at an accredited 2-year or 4-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire 2024-2025 academic year.

Employees’ Children Eligibility:

  • Child* of an active full-time employee
  • Child* of an active part-time employee (minimum of 20 hours/week)

Employed Physicians’ Children or Private Practice Physicians’ Children Eligibility:

  • Child* of full-time Active employed physician
  • Child* of an Active private practice physician

*Children must be high school seniors or high-school graduates who plan to enroll or are already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate allied health or nursing program at an accredited 2-year or 4-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire 2024-2025 academic year.

Contingent employees, corporate employees and employees and all children of any other Corewell Health hospital are not eligible. Employees or children of employees of other locations may be eligible if the employee is reporting to Troy for ambulatory services (i.e. Tilch building, Health & Wellness Center, etc.). Employees must be actively employed at the time of application.

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive one of the following:

  • Awards of $2,000 will be granted for full-time enrollment
  • Awards to part-time employees, children of part-time employees and employees who attend school part-time will be $1,000 each
  • Awards for full-time employees or children of full-time employees who change to a part-time employee, or full-time enrollees who change to part-time enrollment, will be adjusted to $1,000
  • The authorized distribution for new awards is $30,000

The employee/parent must be employed at the time payments are issued to be eligible to receive the payment.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements, however a student who has received two awards may not be considered for additional awards.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Honors
  • Work experience
  • Statement of goals and aspirations
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any Troy Staff Physician, or officer or employee of Corewell Health Beaumont Hospital Troy or Corewell Health play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in early July. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the physicians of Corewell Health Beaumont Hospital Troy. Payment is made in one installment in early August.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than May 23, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time.
