Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona has established a scholarship program to assist employees’ children who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.
This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.

To be eligible for a John C. Foster award, applicants must be planning to enroll at Arizona State University or an affiliate.
Children of officers (executives, vice presidents) are not eligible to apply. Employee must be employed at the time checks are issued to receive award.
If selected as a Blue Scholars recipient, the student will receive a $1,000 award. Up to ten (10) Blue Scholars awards will be granted annually.
If selected as a John C. Foster Scholarship recipient, the student will receive a $1,000 award. Up to five (5) John C. Foster awards will be granted annually.
Students may receive only one scholarship per year – either the Blue Scholars award or the John C. Foster award. Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Selection of Recipients
Recipients will be selected from a pool of qualified applicants who demonstrate the greatest financial need with consideration also given to academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
Applicants will be notified in May. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona. Payments are made in one installment on August 1.
