Bob's Discount Furniture Scholarship Program

Application status: Closed

Bob’s Discount Furniture Education Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist employees and children of employees and their domestic partners who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible application are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Employee applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

Be full-time or part-time (domestic) employees for at least one (1) year at Bob’s Discount Furniture (excluding any Covid-19 related disruption).
Be in good standing.
Be high school seniors or graduates or current college undergraduates or current graduate students.
Plan to enroll in full-time or part-time in undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

Children of employee applicants must meet all the following criteria:

Be dependent* children, up to age 26, of full-time Bob’s Discount Furniture (domestic) employees who have a minimum of 1 year employment with the company as of the application deadline date (excluding any Covid-19 related disruption).
*Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee. Additionally, they will also include any children of your Domestic Partner who meets the criteria above.
Be high school seniors or graduates or current college undergraduates or current graduate student.
Plan to enroll in fulltime undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

Children of senior executives (SVP/EVP) are ineligible.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

Academic record
Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
Unusual personal or family circumstances
An online recommendation

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of finalists is made by Scholarship America. A Bob’s Discount Furniture Education Foundation selection committee will review finalists and select recipients. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in May via email.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Bob’s Discount Furniture Education Foundation. Payment is made in August.

Employee Awards:

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $5,000 award. Up to twenty (20) awards will be granted.

Dependent Awards:

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive $5,000 award. Up to fifty (50) awards will be granted.

All Awards:

Renewal awards can be used toward a bachelor’s degree and then transfer to a master’s degree if the student enrolls in a graduate program immediately after completing their undergraduate degree. Recipients can receive the award for a total of 4 consecutive years.

Per IRS Rev. Proc. 76-47, the employment eligibility requirement does not apply to previous recipients.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

Current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course, and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload an official copy of those test scores separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than April 2, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.

A few items to keep in mind while applying:

When registering, use “I’m a student” under the First time here? section.
While completing the Profile, employee applicants may choose “Postsecondary (university) student” for their Current year in school if there has been a time gap since high school graduation.
While completing the Profile, please select the appropriate year level for the Year in school for the upcoming academic year that would apply to the 2024-2025 academic year.
