Future Defense Lawyer Scholarship

The Bowman and Brooke Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist students currently enrolled in first year of Law School Studies (1L) who plan to enroll full-time at an ABAaccredited law school for the entire upcoming academic year.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Bowman and Brooke Future Defense Lawyer Scholarship must:

  • Be currently enrolled in first year of Law School Studies (1L)
  • Plan to enroll full-time at an ABA–accredited law school for the entire upcoming academic year
  • Selfidentify as one or more of the following: Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Hispanic or Latino, Asian, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, LGBTQIA+ and/or an individual with a disability
  • Possess a demonstrated interest in representing defendants in civil actions

Bowman and Brooke LLP employees and their immediate family members (spouses and dependents) are ineligible.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $5,000 award. Up to 2 awards will be granted. Awards are onetime only. Past recipients may not reapply. Recipients may be offered internships during pursuit of their law degree and/or career opportunities with Bowman and Brooke LLP upon graduation.

Awards are for graduate study at an ABAaccredited law school only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in April.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Bowman and Brooke Foundation. Payments are scheduled to be made in August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need is not considered. Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Bowman and Brooke Foundation play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.


As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than March 4, 2024 3:00 pm 3:00 p.m. Central Time.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
