The Harmon E. Broyles Scholarship Program

The Virginia Carolina’s Scholarships Foundation Trust has established a leadership based scholarship program to assist students who live in Virginia, North Carolina, or South Carolina and plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at Virginia Tech for the entire upcoming academic year.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards for this scholarship are granted to eligible recipients without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the The Harmon E. Broyles Scholarship Program must:

  • Live in Virginia, North Carolina, or South Carolina
  • Be high school seniors or graduates or current college undergraduates
  • Plan to enroll in fulltime undergraduate study at Virginia Tech for the entire upcoming academic year
  • Be pursuing a degree offered by the Virginia Tech College of Engineering
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)
  • Hold a leadership role in recognized/identifiable group or team

Trustees, selection committee members and their immediate family members are ineligible to apply.

Awards

Up to* two fullride awards** will be granted.

*The award amounts and number of awards will be based on the annual funds available.

**Awards are intended to cover the entire Cost of Attendance (COA): tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, and board. Award amounts will be determined based on the cost of attendance as determined by each recipient’s financial aid award letter. If recipients have changes to their enrollment or living situation midyear, their award amount may be adjusted if funds are available.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in July.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the Virginia Carolina’s Scholarships Foundation Trust. Payment is made in August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of educational and career goals and objectives, unusual personal or family circumstances, an online recommendation and three essays.

Financial need will be considered. Recipients must demonstrate need. Applicants will be asked to upload a copy of their Student Aid Report (SAR) and the Cost of Attendance (COA) for their current semester/term (or upcoming semester/term if available) as part of their application.

Awards are not renewable; however, students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. Preference may be given to past recipients.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.


As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
    NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.
  • A copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR).

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than May 26, 2022 3:00 pm Central Time.
