J. Russell and Gladys Irene Carmell Scholarship

The J. Russell and Gladys Irene Carmell Scholarship assists U.S. citizens who have resided in the Tri-County, Michigan area and plan to pursue a nursing profession.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the J. Russell and Gladys Irene Carmell Scholarship must be:

  • U.S. citizens who have resided in the Tri-County (Bay, Midland and Saginaw Counties, MI) area for a minimum of four years prior to scholarship application.
  • High school seniors or the previous year graduates*, in the top 25% of their high school graduating class.
  • Planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Planning to study and engage in a recognized nursing profession including Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, or Nurse-Anesthetist.

*The applicant should not have a gap of more than one year since commencement of high school.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award based upon the funds available and the number of eligible recipients.

Awards will not exceed the amount for a complete regular course of instruction for the level of degree sought by the recipient, or exceed the cost of tuition, fees and books charged at their school, or at any public college or university existing in Bay, Midland or Saginaw Counties.

Awards may be renewed for up to four additional years or until a degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study. Renewal awards are subject to the same restrictions in regard to of cost of tuition and books.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of goals and aspirations and any unusual personal or family circumstances.

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of PNC Institutional Investments, Trustee play a part in the selection, but will verify all selections and award amounts.  Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.  All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

Recipients will be notified in May.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of PNC Institutional Investments, Trustee. Payment is made in August.

As part of your application, you must upload the following document:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
