Celina Insurance Group and Employees Scholarship Program

Celina Insurance Group has established a scholarship program to assist high school seniors who are children or grandchildren of employees OR high school seniors who reside or will graduate from high school in Mercer or Auglaize County, Ohio and plan to continue their education in college.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the Celina Insurance Group and Employees Scholarship Program must meet all the following criteria:

  • Reside or will graduate from high school in Mercer or Auglaize County, Ohio

OR

  • Be a child or grandchild of a current employee of Celina Insurance Group (no county constraint)

AND

  • Be a high school senior
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university for the entire upcoming academic year
  • Plan to pursue a major/degree in an insurance-related major (examples: Accounting, Actuarial Sciences, Business, Communications, Computer Science, Finance, Marketing, Pre-Law, Risk Management and Insurance, etc.)

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • An essay
  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of career and educational goals and objectives

Applicants will be required to answer the following essay topic:

“Most insurance companies factor in a credit-based insurance score to determine premiums. Credit-based insurance scores use the risk of loss to help determine potential insurance premiums. Indicate and describe actions that you as a potential insurance policy holder can take to help build your credit score and lessen your insurance premium.”

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America and Celina Insurance Group. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $1,000 award. Up to 3 awards will be granted. Each award is renewable one-time. Renewal students must provide a copy of their college transcript at time of renewal. Renewal awards are $500 per student on the basis of satisfactory academic performance maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0-or higher on a 4.0 scale and entering their second year of college at a sophomore level or higher. In renewal years the award will be called the Don Montgomery Memorial Renewal Scholarship.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in mid-May.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Celina Insurance Group. Payment is made in August.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  • An essay no less than 1 page, no more than 2 pages, double spaced and size 11 font on the following topic:
    • “Most insurance companies factor in a credit-based insurance score to determine premiums. Credit-based insurance scores use the risk of loss to help determine potential insurance premiums. Indicate and describe actions that you as a potential insurance policy holder can take to help build your credit score and lessen your insurance premium.”

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.

Award recipients will be sent an email invitation to register for the Which Way App financial literacy training tool with access to the following modules for a one-year cycle:

• Achieving Goals
• Creating and Maintaining a Budget
• Paying for College
• Understanding Credit
• Obtaining Credit
• Applying for Financial Aid
• Managing Credit Cards
• Managing Student Loans While in School
• Managing Debt
• Repaying Student Loans
