CenterPoint Energy Scholarship Program
Application status: Closed

The Center Point Energy Scholarship was established to assist dependents of employees who plan to continue their education in college or vocational programs. Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, leadership experiences and extra-curricular activities.

This scholarship is paid for by the Chairman’s Scholarship Foundation.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the CenterPoint Energy Scholarship Program must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be dependent* children, age 25 and under**, of CenterPoint Energy employees (active, retired, disabled, deceased while in service, or an LTD recipient) who have a minimum of one year of employment with the company by January 1 of 2024. The student must be age 25 or less at the starting date of any semester under this scholarship.
*Dependent children are children or legal dependents who qualify as federal tax exemptions to the employee.
**Students who plan to pursue or continue a graduate degree must meet the age eligibility requirement.
  • Be high school seniors or graduates or current postsecondary undergraduates, or graduate students who plan to enroll/continue in full-time study toward a four-year, associate’s or technical degree or completion of a recognized course of study at an academically accredited institution.
*Full-time is defined as at least 12 credit hours each semester and 24 credit hours in an academic year, or the equivalent (in the event the institution uses a different measure of academic credit).

Awards

Eight (8) students will be selected as scholarship recipients. If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $2,000 award.

Awards may be renewed for up to three additional consecutive years. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance per semester, as defined in the initial application grade point eligibility requirements, and the student remaining age 25 and under. Recipients must respond to and complete Scholarship America’s required renewal steps each year to continue receiving the award.

Students receiving a CenterPoint Energy Scholarship are not eligible to receive a Chairman’s Scholarship Fund during the same academic year.

Awards are for undergraduate and graduate study.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities over the past four years
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • An online recommendation

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of CenterPoint Energy play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
