CFPBMC Interview Scholarships

The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties provides scholarship opportunities for students to pursue their educational goals. Scholarships are available for graduating high school seniors and undergraduates who are attending community colleges, four-year universities, and vocational/technical schools.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants will complete one application for consideration for all the scholarship funds under CFPBMC Interview Scholarships.

Scholarship funds included in the CFPBMC Interview Scholarships Application:

  • Barrat Scholarship Fund
  • Edward T. Bedford Foundation Scholarship Fund
  • Jacob Branen Memorial Scholarship Fund
  • Lawrence A. Sanders Scholarship Fund for Creative Writing
  • Leah G. Schad Memorial Scholarship Fund

Applicants will apply to CFPBMC Interview Scholarships. One common application is completed to apply to any of the below funds. Applicants must meet the following criteria and the criteria of one or more of the scholarships listed:

  • Be a graduating high school senior
    • Residing in Palm Beach County, Martin County, or Okeechobee County, Florida
    • OR
    • Attending one of the following high schools:
      • Boca Raton Community High School
      • Florida Atlantic University High School
      • Forest Hill Community High School
      • Katz Yeshiva High School of South Florida
      • Olympic Heights Community High School
      • Saint Andrew’s School
      • Saint John Paul II Academy
      • Spanish River Community High School
      • West Boca Raton Community High School
  • Be enrolled or plan to enroll in a part-time or full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college/university or vocational-technical school in the United States
    • Certification programs must be through an accredited institution and must run on a standard academic semester calendar. Certification programs must be a minimum of one semester/term in length and applicants must be enrolled at the time awards are disbursed
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA (unless noted otherwise)
  • Children of Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties employees are not eligible for these awards

Some scholarships may require interviews that will be conducted March 17 to April 11.

Barrat Scholarship Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior residing in Palm Beach County, Martin County, or Okeechobee County
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Preference given to applicants pursuing a degree or career in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or Applied Data
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Estimated one (1) award of $20,000 will be granted for undergraduate study only

Edward T. Bedford Foundation Scholarship Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior residing in Palm Beach County or Martin County
  • Be enrolled or plan to enroll in a four-year college/university
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Preference for participation in extracurricular interests including athletics, artistry, literacy, or music
  • Estimated ten (10) awards of $2,500 will be granted for undergraduate study only

Jacob Branen Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior residing in Martin County
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Preference give to those who have overcome challenges and adversity
  • Preference given to applicants with a learning disability that may have impacted their academics
  • Estimated 1 award of $2,500 will be granted for undergraduate study only

Lawrence A. Sanders Scholarship Fund for Creative Writing

  • Be a graduating high school senior residing in Palm Beach County or Martin County
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Preference given to applicants pursuing a degree or career in Creative Writing
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Estimated one (1) award of $2,500 will be granted for undergraduate study only

Leah G. Schad Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior who attended Gale Academy of Environmental Science and Technology at Forest Hill Community High School for a minimum of three years
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Demonstrated stewardship of the environment
  • Participation in extracurricular activities such as the science fair and/or Envirothon
  • This award is NOT renewable
  • Estimated one (1) award of $5,000 will be granted for undergraduate study only

Mickey Mandelblatt Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior from:
    • Boca Raton Community High School
    • Florida Atlantic University High School
    • Katz Yeshiva High School of South Florida
    • Olympic Heights Community High School
    • Saint Andrew’s School
    • Saint John Paul II Academy
    • Spanish River Community High School
    • West Boca Raton Community High School
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Demonstrated significant life challenges
  • Estimated two (2) awards of $4,000 will be granted for undergraduate study only

Nicholas Megrath Scholarship Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior who attended Gale Academy of Environmental Science and Technology at Forest Hill Community High School for a minimum of four years
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Demonstrated stewardship of the environment
  • Participation in extracurricular activities such as the science fair and/or Envirothon
  • This award is NOT renewable
  • Estimated one (1) award of $6,000 will be granted for undergraduate study only

Oristano Scholar Fund II

  • Be a graduating high school senior residing in Palm Beach County or Martin County
  • Maximum 3.3 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Preference given to applicants who self-identify as American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black, African, or African American, Hispanic or Latino, or Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander
  • Estimated six (6) awards of $5,000 will be granted for undergraduate study only

Pundit Mulchand and Janki Devi Sharma Scholarship Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior residing in Palm Beach County or Martin County
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Preference to children of first-generation immigrants from India, or other first-generation immigrants
  • Estimated one (1) award of $2,500 will be granted for undergraduate study only

Sunburst Foundation Community Scholarship Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior residing in Palm Beach County or Martin County
    • EXCEPT those from the following high schools:
      • Atlantic Community High School
      • Boca Raton Community High School
      • Boynton Beach Community High School
      • Lake Worth Community High School
      • Olympic Heights Community High School
      • Spanish River Community High School
      • West Boca Community High School
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Preference for applicants who pursue a degree or career in Physical Sciences:
  • Astronomy
  • Biology
  • Botany
  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science
  • Ecological Sciences
  • Engineering
  • Geology
  • Mathematics
  • Nursing
  • Oceanography
  • Pharmacy
  • Physics
  • Pre-Dental

The Gubelmann Family Foundation Scholarship Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior residing in Palm Beach County or Martin County
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Preference given to applicants who self-identify as American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black, African, or African American, Hispanic or Latino, or Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander
  • Estimated one (1) award of $2,500 will be granted for undergraduate study only

The Harman Family Scholarship Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior residing in Palm Beach County or Martin County
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Estimated four (4) awards of $5,000 will be granted for undergraduate study only

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $2,000 to $20,000. Up to 30 awards will be granted.

Applicants may receive ONE award per year from the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties.

Awards are renewable for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first (unless specified otherwise). Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance (maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale) in a part-time or full-time course of study and continuation of the program by the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

The scholarship is to be used for tuition and education-related expenses. Unused funds must be returned to the Sponsor.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in June.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties.

Payment is made in July.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership
  • Participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation
  • Financial need

Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, will be considered but may not be required.

Selection of finalists is made by Scholarship America. Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties and an outside scholarship committee will review applicant data, including all essays responses, and select recipients. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

    • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
      • Student name
      • School name
      • Grades
      • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than February 6, 2025 4:00 pm Central Time (5:00 PM Eastern Time).
