The Cigna Group Scholars Program was established to assist dependents of employees who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to The Cigna Group Scholars Program must:

  • Be a dependent* child or grandchild (age 26 or younger) of an employee of The Cigna Group and its subsidiaries in the U.S. or Canada with a minimum of one year of employment with the company as of the application deadline date.
*Children include natural children, legally adopted children, legally adopted children from the date the employee assumes legal responsibility, children for whom the employee assumes legal guardianship, stepchildren and grandchildren. Also included are the employee’s children (or children of spouse or partner) or grandchildren for whom the employee has assumed legal responsibility.
  • Be high school seniors (graduating in 2024) or graduates or current postsecondary undergraduates. Students outside the United States must be in their final year of upper or higher secondary school or be current technical or university level students.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $3,000 award. Per IRS guidelines, up to 25% of applicants will receive a scholarship. The number of scholarships awarded is determined by the amount of applicants.

Applicants may reapply to the program each year; however, awards are not renewed automatically.

Awards are only for undergraduate or vocational-technical school study.

The awards will be issued in U.S. currency. Awards will be made payable to the school.

Selection of Recipients

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances

Financial need will be considered. Recipients must demonstrate need.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of The Cigna Group or The Cigna Group Foundation play a part in the selection process. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in July. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of The Cigna Group Foundation. Payments are made payable to the college in one installment in August.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:
