CITGO Petroleum Corporation has established a scholarship program to assist the children of CITGO employees and retirees who plan to continue their education in college. Renewable scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited four-year college or university.
This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin.
Applicants to the CITGO Petroleum Corporation Scholarship Program must be:
*Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in a parental relationship with the eligible employee or retiree.
CITGO offers a limited number of $4,000 scholarships each year.
Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or better (on a 4.0 scale) in a full-time course of study at an accredited four-year college or university, continued employment of the CITGO parent employee and continuation of the program by CITGO Petroleum Corporation.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Applicants will be notified in early April. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal. Financial need is not considered.
Preferences will be given to students majoring in core refinery processes including chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering and metallurgy.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of CITGO Petroleum Corporation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of CITGO Petroleum Corporation. Payments are made in early August.
