Citizens Scholars Program
Application status: Closed

Citizens Bank N.A. (“Citizens”) has established the Citizens Scholars program to assist colleagues’ dependent children (25 years of age and under) currently enrolled, or high school seniors planning to enroll, in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two or four-year college, university or vocational / technical school. This program has annually awarded up to 12 renewable $3,000 scholarships. We are pleased to continue this valued program this year.

Applicants may have the chance to be considered for opportunities with Citizens if the applicant opts-in on the application.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Citizens Scholars Program must be:

  • Dependent* children, age 25 and under, of full- or part-time Citizens colleagues who have a minimum of one year of employment** and are in good standing with a satisfactory performance review (rating of 3- or above) as of the application deadline.
*Dependent children” refers to natural or legally-adopted children or stepchildren of the colleague who qualify for benefits provided by Citizens.
**Including length of service credited as part of Citizens acquisitions.
  • High school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll, or students who are already enrolled, in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire academic year and have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Taking pass/fail courses and obtaining a pass for applicable courses will not impact a student’s eligibility as long as the student has met all other eligibility requirements.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, then the student will receive an award of $3,000. Up to 12 awards will be granted each year.

Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon maintaining a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale in a full-time undergraduate course of study, the student’s parent continuing to be in good standing with a satisfactory performance review (rating of 3- or above) and continuation of the program by Citizens.

Applicants not awarded a scholarship may apply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified by email in July whether or not they are a recipient. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Citizens. Payments are made in one installment in August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives (including highlights of leadership skills and impact on their community)
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances

Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated.

An effort will be made to represent the diverse population of the employee population and applicant pool.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Citizens play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
