Citizens has established a scholarship program to assist colleague’s children currently enrolled, or high school seniors planning to enroll, in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two or four-year college, university or vocational / technical school. This program is just another way in which Citizens demonstrates our commitment to doing more for our customers, colleagues and communities to help them reach their potential. We are dedicated to continuous learning and investing in the growth of the current and prospective workforce. Applicants will have the opportunity to join Citizens Bank Online Talent Community providing them ongoing communications on the bank’s early career development programs and internship opportunities.

This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America┬«,the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin.

Applicants to the Citizen Scholars Program must be:

  • dependent* children (age 23 and under) of full- or part-time Citizens colleagues who have a minimum of one year of employment, are in good standing with a satisfactory performance review (rating of 3- or above) as of the application deadline
  • high school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll, or students who are already enrolled, in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire academic year

“Dependent children” refers to natural or legally-adopted children or stepchildren of the colleague who qualify for benefits provided by Citizens. To be eligible for this scholarship program, the child must also be a dependent age 23 and under.

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive:

  • a $3,000 award
  • up to 12 awards will be granted each yea

Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon maintaining a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale in a full-time undergraduate course of study, the student’s parent continuing to be in good standing with a satisfactory performance review (rating of 3- or above) and continuation of the program by Citizens.

Applicants not awarded a scholarship may apply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • academic record
  • demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • honors
  • work experience
  • statement of goals and aspirations
  • unusual personal or family circumstances
  • an outside appraisal

Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or colleague of Citizens play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in June whether or not they are a recipient. Recipients will be notified by mail and non-recipients will be notified by email. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Citizens. Payments are made in equal installments on August 1 and December 15.

Application Information

Interested students must complete the application in English and mail it along with a current, complete transcript of grades and any other required documents to Scholarship America postmarked no later than May 21, 2019. Grade reports are not acceptable. Online transcripts must display student name, school name, grade and credit hours earned for each course, and term in which each course was taken. Applicants will receive acknowledgment of receipt of their application. If an acknowledgment card is not received within three weeks, applicants may call Scholarship America to verify that the application has been received.

Applicants are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. Applications are evaluated on the information supplied; therefore, answer all questions as completely as possible. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated. All information received is considered confidential and is reviewed only by Scholarship America.

Applicants must print the page(s) of the application containing the Applicant Appraisal and Transcript Information sections (if part of the application) and submit to the appropriate individuals for completion (if applicable). These sections cannot be completed electronically.

Mail the completed application form (including the completed Appraisal and Transcript sections if part of the application, and any other required documents) to Scholarship America by the program’s application postmark deadline: May 21, 2019. The mailing address is on the application form.
