The Scott Cook and Signe Ostby Scholarship Program for Children of Intuit Employees
Applications must be submitted online by 3 pm Central Time on February 1, 2024. Late applications will not be accepted.

Scott Cook and Signe Ostby have established a scholarship program to assist employees’ children who plan to continue their education in private secondary school, private or public college or university, or vocational-technical programs. Renewable scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice. Eligible students can qualify for up to $46,200 in total funding over four years.

The sponsors’ intent is to reward students who have demonstrated that they are “go-getters,” who take whatever situation they are dealt and make a real difference. They make the best of whatever circumstances they face because of their personal leadership, drive, determination, and organizational skills.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined by the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Program must be:

  • Children or direct dependents, age 25 and under, of regular full-time Intuit employees (domestic and international) who have a minimum of one year of employment with the company as of the application deadline. The employee must also be employed with Intuit when the award is announced (in late March). Children of the President and Chairman are not eligible.
  • Students in the eighth through eleventh grades (secondary, upper, or higher secondary) who are planning to enroll in a private secondary school/high school/CEGEP, or
  • High school seniors, students in their final year of higher secondary/CEGEP, or graduates who are enrolled or are planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical program for the upcoming academic year.

Awards

Financial need will be considered in determining the amount of the award. Awards will range from $5,800 to $11,550 per year. Applicants who show no financial need or choose not to complete the financial section will be eligible to receive the minimum award of $5,800 per year. We strongly encourage all applicants to complete the financial section of the application before submitting, as Scholarship America cannot accept this information at a later date.

Students enrolled for only part of an academic year (e.g., a quarter or semester) may receive a pro-rated award.

Awards can be used for full-time study at a private secondary school or at an accredited postsecondary or vocational-technical institution of the student’s choice and are intended to pay for tuition, fees, books and supplies, and required equipment.

All awards are renewable up to three times or until graduation, whichever occurs first, by maintaining a 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) and full-time enrollment for at least one quarter or semester. Students enrolled in their first year of college may renew their award by maintaining a 2.7 cumulative grade point average. Students not meeting the GPA requirement may submit an appeal stating extenuating circumstances regarding their academic performance; such appeals will be reviewed by the Sponsor. Recipients of private secondary or upper or higher secondary awards must reapply for postsecondary awards, provided that an individual recipient may receive a maximum of four years of Program funding across their secondary and postsecondary studies.

Applicants may receive an award from both the The Scott Cook and Signe Ostby Scholarship Program and the George A. Hansen Scholarship Program in the same year.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected based on:

  • Past academic performance
  • Leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Paid work and entrepreneurial experience
  • A “go-getter” statement describing a personal achievement
  • An online recommendation.
  • An optional statement of home responsibilities
  • An optional statement of personal circumstances/hardships

Once scholarship recipients are selected, financial data is reviewed to determine the amount of each award.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance do the sponsors play a part in the selection process. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in late March. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
