How many teachers will receive grants?
Up to 50 teachers will be selected for the grants.
I am not a tenured faculty. Can I still apply for the teaching grant?
We welcome applications from any current educator that serves as an instructor of record for their class. Instructor of record is any teacher or staff member employed to teach courses and authorize credit for the successful completion of those courses.
I have a project idea, but I’m not sure which course I’ll be teaching in Fall 2023. Can I still apply?
Yes, you can still apply as long as the project objectives remain similar. Please note in your application if you are unsure of which class you will be teaching.
Can I use this grant for an in-person course?
Yes, funded projects may be part of traditional, hybrid, or distance-learning courses as long as the project promotes digital learning and pedagogy.
My project will cost more than the $2,000 offered by the Course Hero Teaching Grant program. Can I still apply for this grant?
Unfortunately, co-funded projects are currently not eligible for the Course Hero Teaching Grants program.
How can the grant funds be spent?
Grant recipients can use the funding in any way that supports innovative digital learning & pedagogy with a focus on active, inclusive, and student-centered learning. Past recipients used the funds to purchase software and equipment, to connect students with subject matter experts, to support student research presentations, or in other ways that brought new resources and techniques into the student learning experience.
What do you mean by “digital pedagogy and learning”?
Any type of learning that involves examining, using, or creating digital tools, technologies, and networks to foster critical and student-led learning. The grant welcomes a broad spectrum of pedagogical approaches that encourage digital literacy among students.

Why do I need to create an account with Scholarship America to apply?
Course Hero is partnering with Scholarship America to administer and manage this grant program’s application and award fulfillment.
When will grant recipients be notified?
Decisions will be announced over email by late June 2023. Funds will be distributed to grant recipients in early July.
How will funds be distributed?
Funds will be distributed to educators directly via check by our grant partner Scholarship America shortly after the recipients have been notified and all required documentation is submitted and processed.
Do I have to pay taxes on the grant amount I receive?
Personal income tax will apply to the educators’ grant funds. However, recipients may be able to claim a deduction for expenses on the individual income tax return and should consult with their tax advisor. This deduction is limited to $250.
Tell me more about the $250 deduction.
Recipients may be eligible for a deduction of up to $250 of unreimbursed trade or business expenses, which can be used to offset the grant income you receive from Course Hero. Qualified expenses are amounts you paid or incurred for books, supplies, computer equipment (including related software and services), other equipment, and supplementary materials you use in the classroom. This deduction is for expenses paid or incurred during the tax year. Please consult with your tax advisor on the appropriate tax treatment and any specific tax questions you may have.
Will I still own the copyright on my teaching materials developed with this grant?
Yes, educators maintain the copyright on all materials developed for their courses.
What do I need to submit to Course Hero at the end of the grant period?
Recipients will be expected to provide a reflection on the project impact in January 2024. Templates will be provided at the beginning of the grant period. The reflection will include the ability to attach deliverables that convey project details and outcomes.
Recipients will be invited to participate in an optional virtual “check-in” to discuss project progress with the Course Hero educator team.
