DEWALT Trades Scholarship

Stanley Black & Decker has established the DEWALT Trades Scholarship to assist students attending a two-year college or vocational-technical school who are pursuing a trade degree/certificate in an industry aligned with the Stanley Black & Decker Maker Goals – including but are not limited to Construction, Industrial, Motor/Power Sector, Mechanics, and Technology.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants of the DEWALT Trades Scholarship award must:

  • Be a current high school senior or college undergraduate students
  • Plan to enroll or are enrolled in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year college or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year
  • Majoring in a trade construction, industrial, motor/power sector, mechanics, or technology degree/certificate, which includes but are not limited to the following fields:
    • Automotive Technology
    • Aviation Technology
    • Carpentry
    • Construction
    • Diesel Technology
    • Electrical Technology
    • Fire Science
    • Heavy Equipment Operation
    • HVAC
    • Machinery
    • Manufacturing
    • Pipefitting
    • Plumbing
    • Welding
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)

Students pursuing degrees/certificates in service industries such as culinary arts, cosmetology, or hospitality are ineligble.

Employees of and dependent children of Stanley Black & Decker employees and its affiliates are ineligible.

Only the first 1000 applications submitted will be considered for scholarship evaluation.

Award information:

  • If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $10,000 award
  • Up to 5 awards will be granted
  • Awards are one-time only. Past recipients may not re-apply
  • Awards are for undergraduate study only

Notification

You will be notified of the status of your application in January. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Stanley Black & Decker. Payments are made in early August.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Maker Trade essay
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of career and educational goals and aspirations
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • Consideration of academic record

Financial need will not be considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Stanley Black & Decker play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Maker Trade Essay Topic

Each applicant will be required to submit an essay on the topic: Please provide the reasons you selected your trade focus and how pursuing this field will positively change your life or the lives of others. Please also include where you see the future of your trade in the next five years.

As part of your application, you must upload the following document(s):

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial or online transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken
  • Optional: Photograph – a clear image of the face or, if possible, an action photo of the applicant performing their craft

Your application is not complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.
