DEWALT Trades Scholarship

Stanley Black & Decker has established the DEWALT Trades Scholarship to assist individuals attending a two-year college or vocational-technical school who are pursuing a trade degree/certificate in an industry aligned with the Stanley Black & Decker Trade Goals – including but are not limited to Construction, Industrial, Motor/Power Sector, Mechanics, and Technology.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants of the DEWALT Trades Scholarship award must:

    • Be citizens of the United States or Canada.
    • Be high school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduate students.
    • Plan to enroll or are enrolled in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year college or vocational-technical school for the entire 2025-2026 academic year.
    • Majoring in a trade construction, industrial, motor/power sector, mechanics, or technology degree/certificate, which includes but are not limited to the following fields:
  • Automotive Technology
  • Aviation Technology
  • Carpentry
  • Construction
  • Diesel Technology
  • Electrical Technology
  • Fire Science
  • Heavy Equipment Operation
  • HVAC
  • Machinery
  • Manufacturing
  • Pipefitting
  • Plumbing
  • Welding
  • Have or had a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)

Individuals pursuing degrees/certificates in service industries such as culinary arts, cosmetology, or hospitality are ineligble.

Employees of and dependent children of Stanley Black & Decker employees and its affiliates are ineligible.

Award information:

  • If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $5,000 USD award
  • Up to 40 awards will be granted
  • Awards are one-time only. Past recipients may not re-apply
  • Awards are for undergraduate study only

Only the first 1000 applications submitted will be considered for scholarship evaluation.

Notification

You will be notified of the status of your application in March. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. Past recipients may not re-apply.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Stanley Black & Decker. Payments are made in early August.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Trade essay
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • Consideration of academic record

Financial need will be considered. Recipients must demonstrate need.

Academic evaluation will include a review of the grade/mark average based on the grading system used in the applicant’s country and a review of the results of academic examinations.

Assuming there are qualified applicants, preference will be given to those who self-identify as American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, indigenous people of Canada, and/or be an individual with a disability, and/or self-identify as LGBTQIA+.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Stanley Black & Decker play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Trade Essay Topic

Each applicant will be required to submit an essay on the topic: How will a career in construction and/or the trades empower your future? The essay must be less than 300 words.

As part of your application, you must upload the following documents:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial or online transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  • United States citizens: A copy of the first two pages of the most recently filed IRS Form 1040 used for the Financial Information Page (Please black out SSN)
  • Canadian citizens: A copy of the most recently filed Canadian Tax Document. Please black out your SIN

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload an official copy of those test scores separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

Your application is not complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically. The Financial Data Form will not be accepted as a substitute for the first two pages of the most recently filed tax documents.
