Robert Diaz Memorial Scholarship Fund SOAR Program

The Diaz Family has established the Robert Diaz Memorial Scholarship Fund SOAR Program to assist high school seniors attending Coachella Valley High School who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at a two or four year college or university. SOAR signifies Scholarship, Optimism, Achievement and Responsibility, words that represent the components of what Coach Diaz hoped to instill in each and every student at CVHS.

This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, age, or disability.

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Current high school seniors attending Coachella Valley High School in Thermal, California.
  • Be planning to continue full-time study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university for the entire 2020-21 academic year.

Award Amounts

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award of $2,000. Up to two (2) awards will be granted to one senior girl and one senior boy. Awards are one-time only.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in April.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of The Diaz Family . Payments are made in one installment in early August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • leadership and participation in community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of career and educational aspirations and goals
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An outside appraisal
  • Essay

Financial need will not be considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer of The Diaz Family play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following document(s):

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grade and credit hours, and term in which the course was taken.

Also as part of your application, one online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf by 3:00 p.m. Central Time on April 3, 2020.

Your application is not complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically through the Scholarship America Student Hub.
