Black EyeCare Perspective
Scholarship Program

Diversity Perspective, Inc. has established a scholarship program to assist students who plan to attend a four-year post-graduate program leading to a Doctor of Optometry degree.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Black EyeCare Perspective Scholarship Program must:

  • Self-identify as Black or African American
  • Plan to enroll in a fulltime four-year post-graduate program leading to a Doctor of Optometry
    degree at one of the following schools and colleges of Optometry for the entire upcoming
    academic year:

    • Arizona College of Optometry, Midwestern University
    • Chicago College of Optometry, Midwestern University
    • Inter American University of Puerto Rico, School of Optometry
    • Illinois College of Optometry
    • Indiana University, School of Optometry
    • University of Pikeville, Kentucky College of Optometry
    • Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University
    • MCPHS University, School of Optometry
    • New England College of Optometry
    • Nova Southeastern University, College of Optometry
    • Northeastern State University – Oklahoma College of Optometry
    • The Ohio State University, College of Optometry
    • Pacific University, College of Optometry
    • Salus University Pennsylvania College of Optometry
    • Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University
    • Southern College of Optometry
    • State University of New York, College of Optometry
    • University of Alabama at Birmingham, School of Optometry
    • University of California- Berkeley, School of Optometry
    • University of Houston, College of Optometry
    • University of the Incarnate Word, Rosenberg School of Optometry
    • University of Missouri at St. Louis, College of Optometry
    • Western University of Health Sciences, College of Optometry
  • Be members of the Black EyeCare Perspective Pre-Optometry Club that have attended a
    minimum of 6 club meetings total
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0


If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $1,000 award. Up to 13 awards will be granted.

The award is one-time only. Past recipients cannot reapply for this award; however they can reapply to the program each year they meet the eligibility requirements and may receive the 13% Promise Scholarship.

The award may be used for any education-related expenses. Awards are for post-graduate study only.


All applicants will be notified in July.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Diversity Perspective, Inc. Payment is made in August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of educational and career goals and objectives, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an online recommendation.

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Diversity Perspective, Inc. play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  • Results of the Optometry Admission Test (OAT).

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than May 23, 2022 3:00 pm 3:00 p.m. CT.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
