East Lake Foundation Scholarship Program

East Lake Foundation has established scholarships to assist Charles R. Drew Charter School graduates who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs. Renewable scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the East Lake Foundation Scholarship Program must:

  • Be a graduating senior of Charles R. Drew Charter School who has been enrolled at the school since at least 11th grade.
  • Have completed the FAFSA.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • GPA requirements are specific to each individually named scholarship as follows:
    • Cousins Scholarship: Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0.
    • Eva Davis Scholarship: Have a maximum cumulative grade point average of a 2.9.
    • RC Pruitt Scholarship: Have a minimum grade point average of 2.75.
  • Applicants must respond to an essay question specific to the selected award.

Awards

Awards will be granted as follows:

  • Cousins Scholarship: Up to ten (10) awards at $5,000 each will be granted.
  • Eva Davis Scholarship:
  • Up to ten (10) awards at $3,000 each will be granted.

  • RC Pruitt Scholarship:
  • Up to one award of $3,000 will be granted.

Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon recipients of the Cousins Scholarship maintaining a minimum 2.75 grade point average or satisfactory academic performance for the Eva Davis and RC Pruitt Scholarships in a full-time course of study and continuation of the program by East Lake Foundation.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship finalists are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, and essay responses.

Scholarship America will evaluate and select finalists based on the selection criteria above. East Lake Foundation will determine the recipients.

A letter of recommendation may be considered for recipient selection for Cousins and Pruitt scholarships. Applicants will upload their Letter of Recommendation to the Drew Charter School’s online system to use in selection.

Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

All applicantswill be notified in mid April.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of East Lake Foundation. Payment is made in early August.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  • First pages of your Student Aid Report (SAR as confirmation of your submitted FAFSA. The SAR must display the student’s name and EFC.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
