Travelers EDGE® Program

Travelers EDGE® – Empowering Dreams for Graduation and Employment –  is an innovative educational opportunity developed by Travelers. The program provides college students with financial, academic, professional development and mentoring support while preparing students for a career at Travelers or the insurance and financial services industry.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the Travelers EDGE® Program must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be a high school senior or first-year college student planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate study at one of the following Travelers’ approved, eligible colleges for the entire 2023-2024 academic year.
    • Augsburg University, Minneapolis, MN
    • Capital Community College, Hartford, CT
    • Central Connecticut State University, New Britain, CT
    • Metropolitan State University, St. Paul, MN
    • Saint Paul College, St. Paul, MN
    • St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, MN
    • University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT
  • Current university first-year students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent)
  • Be eligible to work in the United States without needing sponsorship (U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, DACA).
  • Demonstrate financial need as documented by a FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) with an estimated family contribution (EFC) of $7,500 or less.
  • Plan to enroll in a course of study relevant to insurance and financial services. Eligible undergraduate program declared majors:
    • Accounting
    • Actuarial Science
    • Business Administration/Management
    • Business and Technology/Business Data Analytics
    • Communications
    • Computer Application Development
    • Computer/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
    • Computer Science/MIS/CIS
    • Cyber Security
    • Economics
    • Finance
    • Human Resources
    • Industrial Psychology
    • Information Technology
    • International Business
    • Marketing
    • Mathematics (applied or other)
    • Risk Management/Insurance
    • Statistics

Awards

If selected as a recipient, annual awards will be granted as follows:

  • Recipients attending a four-year college or university will receive an award up to $14,000.
  • Recipients attending a community college will receive an award of up to $6,250.

Recipients must participate fully in the Travelers EDGE® program (administered by Travelers) and attend all required events and activities. Each recipient will be provided with a scholar agreement form by the school’s Travelers EDGE® Program manager.

Awards may be renewed for up to six consecutive calendar years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned. A student may not remain in the Travelers EDGE® Program more than six consecutive calendar years unless program approval is granted.

Individual circumstances will be reviewed to determine eligibility for renewals. If a program recipient’s GPA is below 3.0, or other guidelines are not met, the recipient may face program removal or probation in accordance with Travelers’ program guidelines.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

The award may be applied to education-related expenses, including tuition, fees and other college related expenses as applicable (on-campus room & board, lab fees, etc.). This award should not be used to displace other sources of grants or gift aid.

Selection of Recipients

Program recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Personal or family circumstances
  • An essay
  • One online recommendation.

Financial need must be demonstrated based on submitted FAFSA SAR document indicating an EFC of $7,500 or less.

A pool of qualified finalists will be selected by Scholarship America. Travelers and partner college members will review finalists and partner college members will select recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in March if selected for a program interview. Interviews will take place in early April, and scholars will be selected in late April.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Travelers. Payment is made in two installments in late July and mid-December to the partner school.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  • A copy of your Federal FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR.) If you are not eligible to apply for FAFSA, you must upload a note of explanation in place of the SAR.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than February 7, 2023 11:59 pm Central Time.
