In 2021, Edison International and Southern California Edison launched the Lineworker Scholarship Program, in partnership with IBEW Local 47, to provide opportunities for a diverse range of people to become SCE lineworkers.
The program provides scholarships of up to $25,000 per recipient and is funded by Edison International shareholders and IBEW Local 47. The program provides tuition, tools and support services needed to complete required training at the Los Angeles Trade-Technical College. Graduates will be eligible for an entry-level skilled trade position at SCE once they successfully complete the Powerline Mechanic Certificate program, obtain a Class A driver’s license and complete all SCE pre-employment requirements.
The purpose of this scholarship program is to increase Black, Asian Pacific Islander, Native American and female representation in the lineworker role.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
Applicants to the Edison International Lineworker Scholarship Program must:

Financial need is not a consideration.
Special consideration will be given to qualified applicants who are U.S. military veterans.
Selection of finalists is made by Scholarship America. Edison International’s selection committee will select recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
All applicants will be notified in June.
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Edison International for tuition only. Payment is made in late July. The remaining balance of the scholarship will be paid to the recipient by funding requests via Brotherhood Crusade over the course of one year from the start of the program. Scholars can only access up to $10,000 of funding in the first semester of the program.
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award covering all standard program costs and related support services, up to $25,000.
12 students will be selected to be recipients.
Awards are one-time only and must be used for the following costs associated with the Power Line Mechanic Certificate Program at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College:
Recipients may also receive additional support and mentorship from Edison International during and after completing the program at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College.
Upon completion of the Los Angeles Trade-Technical College program, a selected awardee is eligible for employment at Southern California Edison (SCE), a subsidiary company of Edison International. Scholars must successfully complete all hiring requirements including passing all necessary hiring tests. Such position will be at a location in SCE’s 50,000 square mile service area and may require the graduate to relocate. SCE will attempt to provide a work location that is suitable, when available. Scholars have up to two years following the completion of the Powerline Mechanic certificate program (starting the following August) to be eligible for direct job placement (upon successful completion of all SCE hiring requirements).
No further financial or support services will be provided if you fail to participate or graduate from the Los Angeles Trade-Technical College program.

When you click the Scholarship America Hub tab, you will be taken to the Scholarship America HUB.
There you will look for the First Time Here section and click on I’m a student. You will be prompted to register, be sure to use a valid email address that you can check regularly. Complete the registration. You will then be sent an email to confirm your registration and set up your password. Look in your email Spam or Junk folder for the message if you don’t see it. You will be brought back to the Hub where you will be prompted to create a password. Now click Log in.
Next, fill out your student profile. In the Profile Information Section under Your current grade level, be sure to select either High School Senior/Final year secondary student OR Postsecondary (university) student – select this option if you have been out of high school more than 1 year and/or never attended college.
In the Post-secondary school type, you plan to attend select Vocational-Technical Institution/College from the drop-down list as you MUST attend Los Angeles Trade-Technical college in the fall of 2024 to be eligible to apply to this program.
Complete the entire profile and then click Save my profile at the bottom of the page.
Next, click on Return to top. Click on the Scholarships tab at the top of your HUB account. A list of Potential Scholarship Opportunities will be listed. Scroll through the list to locate the Edison Lineworker Program and Click on APPLY NOW.
Lastly, complete and submit the application.
