Customer Service will be available until 2:00 p.m. PT on the day of the deadline.

Edison Scholars was created to recognize the makers of tomorrow – students with big dreams to help power the future. The program awards college scholarships to help fuel your passion for making a difference by studying science, technology, engineering and math.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • be a high school senior with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent.
  • live in Southern California Edison’s (SCE) service territory.
  • plan to attend a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S. for the 2024/2025 academic year.
  • plan to enroll in an eligible major in computer and information services, engineering, engineering technology, management information systems, mathematics, natural resources and conservation, or physical sciences.
  • demonstrate financial need.

Dependents of Edison International and SCE employees or retirees are not eligible for the Edison Scholars Program.

Awards

Up to thirty (30) awards of $12,500 per year, totaling $50,000 over four years, will be granted. Awards are renewable for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance and continued full-time enrollment in one of the designated fields of study at a four-year college and the continuation of the program by Edison International. Renewal awards from prior years will continue to be honored under the original terms of those awards and are not affected by any changes.

All Edison Scholars recipients are eligible for a paid summer internship with Southern California Edison upon completing the first year of school. Scholars must meet the minimum eligibility requirements and complete the required hiring screening.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Recipients attending a United States Military Academy will receive a one-time non-renewable award.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Financial need
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • An impact statement and challenging circumstances essay
  • An online recommendation

Preference will be given to students who are in the first generation in their family to attend college.

This is a competitive program. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as finalists. Not all finalists to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

All applicants will be notified of their status in February. Recipients will be notified of their status in May.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Edison International. Payment is made in early August.

Obligations

If selected to receive an award, recipients must complete and submit a signed Scholarship Acceptance Form, including a statement of good standing in accordance with your school’s code of conduct, before funds can be processed. Recipients are also required to notify Scholarship America of any changes in address, school enrollment, or other relevant information and to send a complete transcript when requested. Acceptance of the scholarship constitutes permission for Edison International to use recipients’ names, biographical information, and pictures for publicity purposes.

Recipients acknowledge that participation in the program requires continuing to satisfy all program eligibility guidelines, including maintaining satisfactory academic performance and remaining in good standing in a full-time undergraduate program majoring in an eligible STEM major at an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display the student’s name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

  • A copy of the family’s most recently filed IRS Form 1040 (first 2 pages) black out all social security numbers.
  • A high resolution (1-2 MB) digital head and shoulders photo of the applicant with a plain background, that will be used in promotional materials if selected as a recipient. Photo guidelines.

You will also be required to supply the below information.

  • The SCE Customer Number as listed on their parent, guardian, or close relative’s utility bill.
  • Two 1000 character essays, one impact statement and another on challenging circumstances.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than February 6, 2024 11:59 p.m. PT.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.

*The top 50 finalists will be required to submit a short video (2 minutes or less) and potentially participate in a final virtual interview. Don’t stress – these are just some ways we can get to know you better. Instructions will be provided to finalists in February.
