Edison Scholars was created to recognize the makers of tomorrow – students with big dreams to help power the future. The program awards college scholarships to help fuel your passion for making a difference by studying science, technology, engineering and math.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.

Customer Service will be available until 1:00 p.m. PST on the day of the deadline.

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • be a high school senior with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent.
  • live in Southern California Edison’s (SCE) service territory.
  • plan to attend a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S. for the 2021/2022 academic year.
  • plan to enroll in an eligible major in computer and information services, engineering, engineering technology, management information systems, mathematics, natural resources and conservation, or physical sciences.
  • demonstrate financial need.

Dependents of Edison International and SCE employees or retirees are not eligible for the Edison Scholars Program.

Awards

Up to thirty (30) awards of $10,000 per year, totaling $40,000 over four years, will be granted. Awards are renewable for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance and continued full-time enrollment in one of the designated fields of study at a four-year college and continuation of the program by Edison International.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Selection of Recipients

Recipients will be selected by Scholarship America on the basis of academic record, financial need, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, challenging personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal. Preference will be given to students who are in the first generation in their family to attend college.

This is a competitive program. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as finalists. Not all finalists to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

All applicants will be notified of their status in late December. Recipients will be notified of their status in April.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Edison International. Payment is made in early August.

Obligations

If selected to receive an award, recipients must complete and submit a signed Scholarship Acceptance Form, including a statement of good standing in accordance with your school’s code of conduct, before funds can be processed. Recipients are also required to notify Scholarship America of any changes in address, school enrollment, or other relevant information and to send a complete transcript when requested. Acceptance of the scholarship constitutes permission for Edison International to use recipients’ names, biographical information, and pictures for publicity purposes.

Recipients acknowledge that participation in the program requires continuing to satisfy all program eligibility guidelines, including maintaining satisfactory academic performance and remaining in good standing in a full-time undergraduate program majoring in an eligible STEM major at an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  1. A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  2. A copy of the family’s most recently filed IRS Form 1040 (first 2 pages) black out all social security numbers.
  3. A high resolution (1-2 MB) digital head and shoulders photo of the applicant with a plain background, that will be used in promotional materials if selected as a recipient.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than December 17, 2020 6:00 pm PST.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.

*The top 50 finalists will be required to submit a short video (2 minutes or less). Don’t stress as it’s simple and can be taken with a phone. Instructions will be provided to finalists in late December.
