Equitable Foundation has established the Equitable Excellence Scholarship Program to assist high school seniors who are planning to continue their education at a two- or four-year college in the United States by Fall 2021.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. In compliance with Federal law, this program will not discriminate in the terms, conditions or privileges of participation on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, disability or sexual orientation.

Applicants to the Equitable Excellence Scholarship Program must:

  • Be United States citizens or legal residents living or claiming residency in one of the 50 U.S. states, District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.
  • Be current high school seniors who reside and attend high school in the U.S., Puerto Rico, or Washington D.C.
  • Plan to enroll full-time in an accredited two-year or four-year college or university in the United States** by Fall 2021.
**Enrollment at an accredited postsecondary institution outside of the United States may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Be willing to provide a release to publicize their identities and information about their achievements along with photographs for use in program promotion and information.

Employees, associates, financial professionals, or immediate family members of employees, associates, or financial professionals of Equitable, Equitable Advisors and all Equitable affiliated companies or Scholarship America, or their affiliates, subsidiaries, or advertising and promotion agencies, are not eligible to apply to this program.

Selection of Recipients

All applications received, up to a maximum of 10,000 or by the deadline date, whichever occurs first, will be considered.

Students who have achieved an extraordinary community service accomplishment through hard work and effort will be identified.

Recipients will be selected with primary consideration given to the student’s demonstrated outstanding accomplishment as described in their essays and online recommendation.

Academic record, leadership, participation in school and community activities, and work experience will also be considered as a demonstration of student’s full ability to succeed in the future.

Financial need is not considered.

Consideration will be given to all applicants and selected recipients will represent a diverse group of students making an impact in service to others.

Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Participation in Scholarship America’s financial literacy tool, WhichWay is offered to scholarship recipients. Recipients will be invited to download the WhichWay app and register to participate in activities that encourage financial literacy to help guide a student to financial stability and success.

Awards

A total of 369 awards will be granted. Scholarship awards are in the amounts of $25,000, $10,000 and $2,500.

Level of award is based on student’s impact in service to others, strength of recommendation, and overall demonstration of an individual who is socially responsible and will be successful in college and beyond.

A student may only receive one award level of the Equitable Excellence Scholarship.

Every recipient’s high school, regardless of the amount of their scholarship, will receive a grant of $1,000 to be used for professional development activities.

Home schools and/or associated organizations do not qualify for the professional grant.

Awards are one-time only and not renewable. Recipients of the $25,000 and $10,000 awards may arrange to receive payment in installments over multiple years.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in March.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Equitable Foundation. Payment is made in August.

As part of your application, one online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf before the program closes.

Pick a recommender that can speak directly to your social responsibility activities, not just a teacher or guidance counselor unless they worked directly with you on the accomplishment you identified. We are looking for adult individuals or professionals who you have worked with, collaborated with, or assisted you in accomplishing your social impact project and goals.

The program closes on December 15, 2020 3:00 pm or when 10,000 applications are submitted, whichever occurs first.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically before the deadline or when 10,000 applications are received, whichever occurs first.
