Fearless Dreamer Scholarship by American Family Insurance and Milwaukee Brewers

American Family Insurance and the Milwaukee Brewers have established a scholarship program to assist Milwaukee, WI area high school graduates and undergraduate students who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Fearless Dreamer Scholarship by American Family Insurance and Milwaukee Brewers must:

  • Live or reside in Milwaukee, WI
  • Be high school seniors or graduates attending college for the first time
  • Be under the age of 25
  • Plan to enroll in full-time or part-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year
  • Be pursuing a STEM major (excluding Pre-Med)
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)

Dependents of American Family Insurance Enterprise employees and American Family Agency Owners and their staff are ineligible.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Essay*
  • Work experience
  • Other personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by American Family Insurance. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Assuming there are qualified applicants, preference will be given to applicants who self-identify as American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Hispanic or Latinx, or Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, and participants of American Family Insurance sponsored STEM programs.

Short answer essay question: “What dream will you be able to pursue with this scholarship?”

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $2,500 award. Up to five (5) awards will be granted.

Awards may be renewed for up to four additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study and continuation of the program by American Family Insurance. Payment is made in early August directly to the educational institution of enrollment.

Internship opportunities may be offered to recipients.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in June.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of American Family Insurance and the Milwaukee Brewers. Payment is made in early August directly to the educational institution of enrollment.

Financial Literacy Support

Award recipients will be sent a Quick Start Guide email to register for WhichWay app with access to the following modules for a one-year cycle:

  • Understanding Basics of Budgeting
  • Achieving Goals
  • Creating and Maintaining a Budget
  • Paying for College
  • Understanding Credit
  • Obtaining Credit
  • Applying for Financial Aid
  • Managing Credit Cards
  • Managing Student Loans While in School
  • Managing Debt
  • Repaying Student Loans

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current official, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than April 29, 2021 3:00 pm CT.
