David and Bonnie Epstein Scholarship
Application status: Closed

Deadline: January 17 or when a maximum of 100 apps have been submitted (whichever occurs first)

On June 24, 2021, due to the collapse of the Champlain Towers South in Surfside Florida, our FirstService family suffered the profound loss of David and Bonnie Epstein. David joined our leadership ranks in 1997 with the acquisition of Wentworth Property Management in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. David was a lifelong learner and deep believer in our associates and the importance of training and education. Through his passion for our business and entrepreneurial spirit, David’s significant contributions became the foundation for our East and New York business, as well as FirstService Financial. After many years and leadership roles, David retired in 2018. He and his wife, David and Bonnie are survived by their son Jonathan, who shares their devotion to education and learning.

The tragedy of Surfside, took David and Bonnie from us and is a poignant reminder of the importance of our larger responsibility to professionalize our industry. So it is fitting that we remember them with this scholarship program, a recognition of their belief in education and our responsibility to communities we serve.

FirstService Residential has established a scholarship program to assist associates in the U.S. or Canada, or their children, grandchildren or spouses, who plan to continue their education at an accredited two- or four-year college or university (or equivalent) or CEGEP institution.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the David and Bonnie Epstein Scholarship must:

  • Be full-time FirstService Residential employees in the U.S. or Canada, or their children, grandchildren or spouses, who have a minimum of one (1) year employment with the company as of the application deadline date
  • Be high school seniors/students in their final year of upper or higher secondary school, or current CEGEP or college/university undergraduate students
  • Plan to enroll in part-time or full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university (or equivalent) or CEGEP institution the entire upcoming academic year

Awards

The authorized distribution for new awards is $10,000. Up to two (2) awards of $5,000 each will be granted and payments will be issued in U.S. dollars (USD). Awards are renewable up to four (4) additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance and continued parental/grandparental/spousal employment. A renewal form will need to be completed during each additional year.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.
