George A. Hansen Scholarship Program

This scholarship is intended as a memorial for George A. Hansen, an Intuit employee for 19 years. His parents, Luisa and William Hansen, have established a scholarship program to assist employees’ children who plan to continue their education in college in pursuit of a degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering. Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited four-year college or university of the student’s choice.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the George A. Hansen Scholarship Program must be:

  • Children or direct dependents* children, age 23 and under, of full-time Intuit employees (domestic and international) who have a minimum of one year of employment with the company as of the application deadline date. The employee must be employed with Intuit at the time the award is announced.
  • High school seniors, current post-secondary undergraduates, or graduate students.
  • Planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate or graduate study pursuing a degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering at an accredited four-year college or university for the entire upcoming academic year

*Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.

Children of the President and Chairman are not eligible to apply.

 

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $5,000 award (U.S.). Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Recipients must demonstrate financial need.

Awards are for undergraduate and graduate study.

Applicants may receive an award from both the George A. Hansen Scholarship Program and the Intuit Scholarship Program in the same year.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in March.  Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the Hansen family. Payment is made in one installment in early August.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Consideration of academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Honors
  • Work experience
  • Statement of goals and aspirations
  • Outside appraisal

Financial need will be considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Intuit, nor any member of the Hansen family, play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Students must confirm their major at the time of acceptance of the award.

Revisions
The Hansen family reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to make changes at any time including termination of the program.

 

Required Documents:

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display the student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course, as well as the term in which each course was taken.

Due to differences in educational systems, applicants from countries other than the U.S. and Canada must provide the following materials:

  • English translations for all non-English documents
  • Clear photocopies of the following educational documents:
    1. Students currently or previously enrolled in an institution of higher education (university) must include the following documents:
      • Academic record (transcript of grades) or all higher education course work completed, and
      • Secondary school credential/diploma/certificate.
    2. Current secondary school students and students who have completed less than one year of higher education (university) must include the following documents:
      • Academic record (transcript of grades) for all secondary education course work completed during the past three years, and
      • Results of academic examinations.
