Georgia Power Scholarship Program

The Georgia Power Scholarship Program assists family members of employees and retirees who plan to continue their education in a college, university, or vocational-technical school program. Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants of the Georgia Power Scholarship Program award must be:

  • Family members* of Georgia Power permanent, full-time employees and retirees. (Co-ops are not considered full-time employees. Sister organizations are not eligible.)
    *Family members are defined as the employee’s spouse or dependent (custodial) sons and daughters, or dependent grandchildren claimed on the employee’s tax return.
  • High school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll or students currently enrolled in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- year or four- year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

Family members of vice president level and above are NOT eligible to participate in this program.

Employees of Non Georgia Power SCS OpCos are NOT eligible to participate in this program.

Awards

Up to twenty (20) awards of $2,500 will be granted. Consideration will be given to represent the diversity of the applicant pool as well as employee location.

Awards are not renewable; however, students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for undergraduate and vocational-technical studies only.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in May of selections made by Scholarship America. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Georgia Power. Awards will be paid in one installment in mid-July.

Selection of Recipients

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Georgia Power play a part in the selection. Awards are granted without regard to creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability or national origin. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

    NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

    One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than March 3, 2025 3:00 pm Central Time.
